Medical tape is a commonly used adhesive tape for dressing wounds. It is useful when the wound is too big to be covered by a regular plaster. Knowing how to use this medical adhesive tape in first aid is important for effective wound healing. Let’s look at the steps involved in the medical use of adhesive tape.

How to use medical tape

  1. Clean the area: Make sure that the wound has been cleaned and that there are no debris or dirt around the skin. Pat the skin dry before beginning.

  2. Prepare the dressing: Cut your gauze dressing or wound pad to size according to the size of the wound. Make sure that you cut enough gauze to completely cover the wound.

  3. Apply the tape: Position the tape over the dressing and press down gently. Make sure the tape is secure on all sides of the wound.

  4. Secure the ends: Secure the ends of the tape by overlapping them and make sure it is securely attached to the skin.

And there you go, you’re all patched up and ready to face the day. Make sure to choose a medical adhesive tape that does not leave any sticky residue and is safe for your skin, such as Hansaplast Fixation Tape. Replace the wound dressing as and when needed, and remember to clean the wound between dressing changes for effective healing.
